(Entry has nothing to do with the title)
I’m withdrawn to write this entry after reading mysara’s post. I think among the use of email apart from our daily method of communication, is as a storage for forward mail. Some of it are useful, and the rest are nevertheless, useless, and I’m not talking about spam. My definition of ‘useful’ leads to the capability of making the email recipient smarter, motivated, knowledgable, relax his/her mind while taking a break and keep him/her update on current event (contohnya warehouse sales :P)
Anything besides that are useless. This includes the kind of email which ends with, ‘please forward this to 10 people otherwise you’ll be cursed with bad luck for 10 days’ or worse, ‘Microsoft is awarding people with cash if you forward this mail to 20 people’, where we are not expected to leave details such as legal name, address, NRIC (?!?). And the funny thing is, some of the sender of that particular mails are my friends who graduated in IT, and working as software/network engineer/developer. It makes them look like a fool with bachelor degree in hand. Why can’t you just think the logic. Kalau IT illiterate tu boleh diterima akal lagi lah.
Lagi satu, ever received an email created/sent by a narrow-minded people? This is the kind of email which mentioned it is wrong to show interest towards something, as an example, a cartoon character Popeye, because the name Popeye in a whatever language means something bad. So what now? According to wikipedia, there are more than 7 thousands of languages conversed in this world, not including dialects. Somehow or rather, there are words that is in Malay could means something else in other language, vice-versa. If its not the spelling the same, the pronounciation itself could be similar.
There was once an IT company from India came to the office and demonstrated a software which I think, could be a useful tool for us at work. Somehow the name of the software is not appealing, they chose a spice name(as in condiments), which is called, Masala (in Malay, it means ‘problem’). Hehe, tough luck.
Any words that we say or write, could give different impressions to different people, with regards to his/her background and whereabout. I can say ‘kawan saya buta‘, which means ‘my friend is blind‘, and wait, it could mean an insult if I meant buta as in Japanese, it will refer to, pig. No offence, but your own name could means men/women genitals in who knows what language huh? Hehehh.
So before you click that Forward button on your email, just remember you will potray yourself with the mail you forwarded. Will the recipient would think you’re generous with knowledge, or just plain shallow?
