July 2008

Whenever me and my friends go on a trip, we usually settled for hostels. First, because it’s cheap and second, we just stayed there for sleep and freshen up. But one thing normally gets me a little picky. Clean bed. I mean bug-free bed.

I only had the encounter with this pest once. We stayed in one hostel, the next morning I woke up from sleep scratching my legs. First it was red dots and it became darkened and ugly. I was worried if I would catch any diseases from bedbugs, but I went online and checked bedbugsguide.com. Glad to know to bites would subside within days. I wrote to the hostel and asked them to check the same website for information. I’m sure they don’t want to lose customers because of poorly conditioned mattress.

I just renewed Silent-Echo domain. But not without a bit of drama. I’ve been meaning to transfer the domain to Godaddy, because my hosting is with Godaddy. The annual fee is about the same, but I was thinking if I have both domain and hosting with the same provider, it would be easier for me, having control both of the things under one account.

I sent an email my domain provider to inform my intention to transfer Silent-Echo domain the another provider more than a month before my domain expires. No reply. Email again. No reply again.

A month before the due, the provider sent me reminder email to renew my account. Under the email it said ” Thank you for using our domain name services, and please reply to this message if you have any questions.” Hell yeah I did send my request for domain exchange. And it seems like they love sending reminders, so I kept asking for domain exchange. You guessed it right. No reply.

On 28th I finally gave in, decided to continue with this provider because I know somebody owns a dot com version of this domain (mine is dot org). What if i wait till expired and within minutes during registration with another provider, within seconds somebody bought it before me. I hate losing games to stupid and ignorant providers players. And so I paid for another year.

On 29th I received a ‘Final Reminder’ asking me to renew. I replied within minutes saying I already paid the night before. You know what, the provider replied within minutes too, remarked that they haven’t received any payment for Silent-Echo.

I forwarded them my payment notification with the following note:

Note: Funny how you can reply so fast when it comes to payment. When I
inquired about domain transfer (at least 3 times) i did not get any feedback at
all.

As usual, they reply with silence.

Sakit hati betul la.

A friend was involved in an accident caused by an overloaded tanker 3 years ago. He broke his ribs, received lots of stitches on the head, endless nights of nightmares and end up with financial crisis.

He filed a lawsuit against the tanker’s company, but everything came in a very slow progress. The process took his time long enough, and he spent his early career earnings paying the lawyers fee.

I just read about Law Max legal funding. Instead of living with pending bills, house rent and credit card debt, my friend can opt for lawsuit advance. He doesn’t need to repay UNTIL his case is settled. I’m sure my friend is the best candidate for Law Max. Say if there’s no recovery, my friend is debt free as he got to keep the cash advance.

Application can be done online too. Talk about convenience!

A new girl joined out team on Monday. I can guess this company is totally new working environment compared to her previous working place. At times she seems lost when my colleague did some briefing to her. But I hope she doesn’t give up because 5 and half years ago, I almost did. She was surprised when she heard we came to the office at 2 in the morning to do system changes. There are so many logins, passwords, abbreviations and terms to remember. Too many security blocks and procedures here and there.

But I kept telling myself the same thing, if that thing doesn’t kill me, that means i’m stronger than that thing (whatever that is).

The bride gave me her checklist to run through yesterday. I didn’t want to admit to her that I’m getting a bit jittery because I didn’t to ruin her moods or turned her into nervous wreck. Heh.

So I thought, I should come out with my list too.

1. One week before the day, sleep early/get enough sleep to avoid panda eyes. Oh but since I’m going to kepit her for 2 weekends, that’s 2 weeks of extra sleep. Bye bye PPP. Huhuhu.

2. Pick up my dresses - this noon.

3. Sew totes - getting the materials this evening.

4. Get these stuff - sweet mints, tissue, facial blotter/sponge.

5. Sew small pillow - getting the materials this evening.

6. Choose shoes - must be less than 2 inches this time. Madam, can i wear my pink Crocs? :p

7. Send the bride my wedding song compilation.

Few months back I decided to add up few ‘brownie points’ to my resume. I have been working in the same skill for so long; I realized experience doesn’t carry everything. Working in information technology fields needs its people to catch up with technologies and they need to catch up fast. Anything sounds fancy and impressive today might become void in few months.

After few days of thinking, I decided to take something related to Cisco, most likely CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) Wireless. I am very confident this will boost up my career because nowadays everybody is making an effort of being wireless. Another option is CCNA Security. Important department with challenging hot seats.

To get Cisco certification, I need to get myself ready for the exam. And I already found the right place, Cisco learning network. I certainly need pointers and advices from the IT professionals. This community connects everyone related to Cisco, hence created the environment for knowledge sharing, I can certainly learn a lot from experts of related background.

This network also provides great resources when it comes to exam preparation materials. Study does not have to be boring, because you can try their games! Get quick reference for your revisions, all at one place.

I am very confident Cisco certification will help me build up my career. For a start, Cisco learning network will provide me with a firm foundation and ongoing support and knowledge. I don’t have to arrange unnecessary appointments with Cisco technical people if I just can get it from the Cisco community coming from all over the world.

Wish me luck!

I received two awards from Debbie and Tini, for Brillante and Kreativ awards respectively. I just looked up in the dictionary and found out ‘brilliante’ means shining very bright. Auwww. I’m not sure if I deserve such honor, because if I compare what I did to what they did, I’m very far behind. But with these awards I hope I go seriously crafting instead of seriously craft shopping.

I hope they both don’t mind if I combined the awards together so it becomes Brillante + Kreativ Awards.

3) Nominate at least 5 other blogs.
4) Add links to those blogs on yours.
5) Leave a message for your nominees on their blogs.

1. Julia Honeyshakes.
- if you think creative only means crafting, think again. Julia Honeyshakes is the girl who designed her own blog and icons. Crafting doesn’t necessarily means doing scrapbook, beading or cards, but when you can pull out a blog as good as her, you’re a star. By the way, she is creative with food too. You should see how she did her bentos.

2. Tizzalicious
- creative, having fun and making money out of it? Tizzalicious is the girl!

3. Soule Mama
- Amanda has my dream job. SAHM + crafter. If you’re the kind of SAHM (if you’re not familiar with this term, SAHM means Stay At Home Mother or what our older generations called housewife) who keep telling me that you don’t have time to do your hobbies (funny how you could follow endless soaps), read Soule Mama’s blog. She’s a wife, with 3 kids and a bun in the oven, who spent her days crafting and do fun stuff with her kids. And wrote a book while at that. I’m green with envy.

4. Making It Lovely.
I got myself hooked with Nicole Balch blog’s when I started looking for interior design ideas. She documented the progress of her house renovation and beautification of interior and exterior on the blog. One word; impressive.

5. Willow & Paisley.
If you think my cards are cute, wait till you see hers. Just the way I like it, clean and simple, yet stunning.

Hair loss happens due to many factors; among the usual ones are hormones and dandruff. Hair is constructed from dead cell but needs a healthy cell to keep it healthy. Healthy scalp and balanced hormones will help produce healthy and shiny hair. However, due to our busy lifestyle and polluted environment we are living in, hair loss is sometimes inevitable.

If you fall into that category, worry not because iBase has introduced hair replacement technology that comes with highest quality of wigs and toupees and can be custom-made to match your real hair. By opting not to go under the knife, you can get hair replacement made from real human hair and kanekalon fiber. Like this Remy toupee base, it’s so natural it looks like it grows on your scalp!

Improve your look with hair replacement that doesn’t need professional maintenance, and the most important thing, it looks real.

I was in and out of my life since the things at work had been quite hectic. When you start crafting in the car or while waiting in the clinic (I normally didn’t do any crafting in public as I’m too shy if people see what I’m doing), you know you wish you have more time in hand. I’m not complaining though, I think I accomplish more objectives when I’m busy as I’m on my high gear mode.

I even co-organized a hen night for someone, it was a blast. I’ll share with you in another entry. I forgot to bring my SD card today. I know I owe Debbie and Tini the awards thingy. Will get back to that a.s.a.p.!

I’m constantly looking for home improvement ideas. I normally concern about space and storage for my future apartment home. But when I found this Cat Napper window perch, I just couldn’t take my eyes off it. My pet cat Zorro loves sunbathing on the kitchen roof, but next year when I’ve moved out and took him along with me, he would not be able to do that again. So this Cat Napper is totally cool idea for him to lounge and enjoy the sun rays by the window.

This perch can be easily fixed by the window sill and the hammock is covered with washable soft fleece cover. It looks so comfortable doesn’t it?

So few of you already knew I’ve taken my braces off more than a week ago. It was one week of complete heaven. I ate like a peasant. I forgot how to worry about food getting stuck in between the metals.

Anyhow, heaven didn’t last long. Last weekend I went to pick up my retainer. The torture started right after the dentist fit it in. It’s hard to describe how it feels to have a slate of plastic on the roof of your mouth. The nurse said I can eat with the retainer but I went ‘ewww’ ‘ewww’ each time I tried. Fine, I can remove it if I’m eating at home but I don’t fancy taking it out whenever I’m dining out.

And the part I hate most, I’m slurring!!

Friends with experience, any tips?
